Ben’s story is one of courage, hope and the unconquerable human spirit. Ben is a proud father, husband and Australian. He was born in Brisbane and has Aboriginal and Italian heritage. At age 16 he joined the Australian Defence Force as an Army Officer. In 1999, he deployed on active service as part of the International Force in East Timor. Following a decade in the military, he successfully transitioned to a civilian career and held several senior executive, CEO and board roles in Australia and offshore. In 2015, he suffered significant mental and physical challenges. Over the next three years, he overcame seemly insurmountable odds as part of his inspiring journey to represent Australia at Invictus Games Sydney 2018. He battled post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and a broken neck and back to compete in indoor rowing and powerlifting. He had the crowd on their feet and then in tears as he won two gold medals and ran over to embrace his family. Today, Ben is an Ambassador for Australia Day, Lifeline, Soldier On, Kookaburra Kids and other charitable organisations. Janine is an explorer of places, people, and ideas, she is deeply driven by the notion of social justice and recognises the value of harnessing change. In 2021 Janine founded the Women’s March4Justice, a charity that strives to transform social attitudes and deliver equality to all women. With a single tweet, Janine organised the March4Justice protests on March 15th, 2021, asking women to join her to protest at Parliament House in Canberra. Volunteer leaders around Australia created events in more than 200 towns and cities. 110,000 women and their allies stood up, spoke up, and were heard around the world. Janine’s commitment to social justice is highlighted through her establishment of a charity that gave her the platform to build schools around the globe. Whilst running this charity Janine oversaw the construction of 10 schools which to this day provide the facilities to educate 1000’s of students daily. Janine started her career as an academic before a segue into design. She is a qualified Interior Architect; her design practice is A Mindful Home. Brad Tucker is an Astrophysicist/Cosmologist at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Mt. Stromlo Observatory and the National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, at the Australian National University. Brad received Bachelor’s degrees in Physics, Philosophy, and Theology from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD in Astrophysics and Cosmology from Mt. Stromlo Observatory at the ANU. He’s leading programs using the NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope and TESS to understand why and how stars blow up. He’s also building a network of ultraviolet telescopes in the upper atmosphere, a search to find Planet 9, as well as issues surrounding the mining of asteroids. Brad frequently gives talks to school groups and the public about Astronomy and has regular segments on various radio and TV stations. He has also developed a series of Astronomy coins with the Royal Australian Mint, consulted on science fiction movies, and has been featured in TV specials. John Minns is Emeritus Professor of Politics and International Relations at the Australian National University. He is a former University Medalist, a Fulbright Scholar and the winner of the Prime Minister’s Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year - the major award for university teaching in Australia – along with many other awards. He was, for many years, the Director of the Australian Centre for Latin American Studies. He has published in many areas, including on refugee policies in Australia.
